A series of any amount or quality of blocked 3rd intervals that are played in one hand and move up or down in primarily 8th note rhythms.

8th Note Parallel 3rds

Notes that are either raised or lowered by two semitones.

Double Accidentals

Hand positions that require stretching beyond a five finger scale; usually to play intervals that are 6ths or greater.

Extended Hand Positions

An indication to play in an unconnected manner, as opposed to legato, but not as short as staccato. Also called "non-legato".

Portato

Arpeggios played with predominantly triplet rhythms.

Triplet Arpeggios

Notes whose values are determined by a subdivision into three-note groupings instead of two or four.

Triplets

More than one clef used in a staff in a single piece or movement.

Clef Changes

Chord tones played together that are not part of an accompaniment pattern.

Blocked Chords

A type of technically challenging and musically complex texture where one or both hands play several voices simultaneously.

Advanced Multiple Voices in One Hand

Additional lines added above or below the staff in order to place very high or very low notes that wouldn't normally fit on the staff.

Ledger Lines

More than key signature used in a single piece or movement.

Key Signature Changes

Intervals and chords played in one hand that require significant stretching between at least two notes and where the outer intervals reach further than an octave.

Large Hand Stretches

A series of blocked intervals that are to be executed at a fast speed and in succession.
