Farandole

A farandole was a popular French community dance in which dancers form a chain. The dancers, following the steps introduced by the chain leader, wind through the streets to the accompaniment of pipes and tabor drums. This piece was first published in 1900 in the Journal des Demoiselles, a French newspaper aimed at girls aged 14 to 18 from affluent backgrounds. The work is dedicated “To my little friends, Cécile and Jacques Passard”. All markings are original to the composer.
