Not much is known about the life of William Scher. But his contributions to popular music during the mid-20th century are remarkable. His works often combined lively melodies with danceable rhythms. These pieces were well-received and showcased his ability to blend traditional and contemporary musical elements. Notable compositions include "Waltzing Gypsies," (1961) and "Israeli Dance," (1963). Scher's music often featured simple, yet evocative arrangements that made his compositions accessible and enjoyable for both performers and audiences. His works are preserved in several special collections, including the Charles H. Templeton, Sr. sheet music collection at Mississippi State University Libraries, which holds digital versions of many of his scores. His works are also stored in the National Library of Israel.
