British composer Thomas Dunhill studied at the Royal College of Music in London and was assistant music master at Eton College, 1899–1908. He was a prolific composer who wrote extensive orchestral and chamber ensemble works including symphonies, two comedic operas and a critical study, Sullivan’s Comic Operas (1928). He studied composition under Stanford, and wrote in many genres, but is remembered particularly for his educational work as both composer and editor of piano music. He is particularly known for his piano teaching pieces such as The Wheel of Progress and for editing influential collections like The Daily Express Community Songbook.
