Mildred Adair was born in Clayton, Alabama. Her father died when she was just 2 years old. She attended Judson College, a private women’s school in Marion, Alabama. She started teaching music lessons from 1910 (age 15) onward.
In 1934 Mildred married real estate agent, Loring G. Stagg. The couple had three children and resided in Dothan, Alabama where Mildred served as organist of the First Baptist Church and Chair of the Harmony Club. She wrote almost all pedagogical piano solos. She also composed art song, 4-hand duets and two piano music.
