Born Jean Louis Gobbaerts, he is perhaps better known by his pseudonym Streabbog (his last name spelled backward). He was a successful 19th-century Belgian musician and a talented concert pianist, teacher, and composer. Streabbog left behind a vast musical legacy. During his lifetime, he composed over 1,200 piano pieces, making him a highly productive composer. His compositions continue to be enjoyed by pianists today.
