Inga Laerum-Liebig
Norwegian
Female
Born 1864, Died 1936
The Norwegian composer Inga Lærum Liebig seems to have had a colorful but tragic life. Daughter of a businessman, she studied music in Oslo (including composition from Christian Sinding) and then in Milan, Rome, and London. In London she met American pianist, Rudolf Liebich. Following the tragic loss of their son and the dissolution of her marriage, Lærum-Liebig returned to Oslo, where she established herself as there as a composer, conductor, and teacher. She published 21 songs, 15 piano pieces and a Romance for violin and piano. Her compositions often reflected Norwegian folk influences, with a lush, lyrical quality.
