George Noyes Rockwell (1855-1916) was born in Utica, New York. He was educated in the public schools and, at age fourteen, became organist at a local church. As an organist, Rockwell relocated to Albany, NY, then Scranton, PA, Muscatine, IA finally moving to Chicago, IL. In Chicago, Rockwell joined the Williams Piano & Organ Company as a composer and lyricist. His compositions were sacred and secular including an opera, numerous anthems, organ works, songs, and hymns. Presser Publishing Company issued a special catalog for his music, some published posthumously. He also was a writer on music and editor of music.
