Many of Sartorio’s pedagogical pieces were written under pseudonyms including Felix Durand, T. Devriant, Arthur Dana, Carlotta Bocca, Christian Schafer and Victor Abella.
Contemporaneous critical opinions of his music declare his compositions as “attractive” and “well-written”. Sartorio’s musical output was almost entirely within the genre of salon music.
His pedagogical pieces became staples in piano instruction across Europe, influencing generations of young musicians and shaping the repertoire of salon music during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Sartorio adopted various pseudonyms to appeal to different audiences and publishers, often reserving lighter or more accessible works for these alternate identities
